The Pinelands Lesson 1 landforms- moutains, hills, and plains are example of landforms. The shapes that make the Earths surface.
geography- Geography means the study of Earth and the way people,animals,and plants live on it on use it.
Border- a line that people agree on to seperrate one place from another. N.J. is bordered by 3 states: Pa DE NY
The Atlanic Ocean borders the east coast of N.J.
Wetland- a land that is covered by water at least part of the year. <---Pinelands Pinelands- a large area of forest of trees (ex. pine, oak, and maple trees)
The Great Swamp is a wetland area. A wetland is covered mostof the year.It was formed when a large lake began to dry up 10,000 years ago.
The Pinelands is a large area of forests.
Lesson 2 The Waterways of NJ
Waterways connect communties to each other, states to each other, and even to other countries. The longest river in NJ is The Raritan River. Waterways are important for transportation (modes- cars, trains, trucks, planes, & boats)
Tranportation- the movent of people or going one place from another.
The Alantis Ocean along our shore connects us to many places around the world. Elevation Maps elevation-height of the land above sea level. Sea level- is zero elevation.
Our State's Climate Weather- the condition of the air a certain condition
Climate- a pattern of weather over many years
Temperature-how hot or cold it is
Precipitation- moisture that falls to the ground
What affects climate?
cool ocean breezes in summer and warm breezes in winter.
How close or far you are located from the equator
-close-hotter climate -far -colder -climate.
NJ has a temperated climate- not to cold or not to hot about 1/2 between North pole and the equator.
Blizzard- a heavy snowstorm with strong winds Hurricanes-violent storm with strong winds and heavy rain

In the fall and the winter, it's warmer along the coast then inland.

The first people who came to North America about 40,000 years ago from Asia. (During the Ice Age)
Scientists believe there was a strip of landconnecting Asia and Alaska (beringia). Now that land is covered in water (Bering Strait).
